Mikko Vaha | Anssi Lehtelä | Quality Engineering as a strategic advantage – learnings from Wolt and SOK
Quality Engineering as a Strategic Advantage
As organizations adopt autonomous teams and continuous delivery, QA roles are often questioned or diluted under the idea that “everyone owns quality.” But without clear ownership, competence, and leadership, quality quickly becomes inconsistent and reactive.
In this talk, Mikko Vaha explores how QA evolves into Quality Engineering and why QA-minded professionals are more important than ever. Drawing from real transformation work at Wolt and SOK, the session shows how QA shifts from late-phase testing to preventive quality, shared understanding, and a deeper understanding of customer value across the entire product lifecycle.
The talk covers practical approaches such as testing parties, pair testing, test strategy coaching, shift-left and shift-right testing, and different types of learning loops enabled by customer feedback and production data.
This session is for testers and QA engineers who want to stay relevant, increase impact, and help teams deliver better products - faster and with confidence. This talk also works as a gateway to the Shift Happens workshop, setting the mindset while the workshop introduces the practicalities.
